What Is Coronavirus (COVID-19)?
According to the Center for Disease Control, coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. The virus that causes COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus that was first identified in Wuhan, China. Risk of infection with COVID-19 is higher for people who are close contacts of someone known to have COVID-19, such as healthcare workers or household members as well as those who live in or have recently been in an area with ongoing spread of COVID-19.
How Does Coronavirus (COVID-19) Spread?
According to the Center for Disease Control, the virus is thought to spread mainly between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet) through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It also may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads. What Are the Symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19)?
According to the Center for Disease Control, patients with COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms of fever, cough, and shortness of breath. These symptoms may appear anywhere between 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.
Our Professional Coronavirus (COVID-19) Cleaning & Disinfecting Services
Since we now know that Coronavirus can survive on surfaces for up to a week and people infected by the virus sometimes don’t show symptoms until approximately two weeks after infection, the disease is proving to be difficult to track and contain. While certain measures such as hand washing, maintaining social distancing, and covering your mouth when coughing, are all important steps to protecting yourself, having a trusted professional disease and biohazard disinfecting company by your side is important. We are dedicated to providing rapid emergency response 24/7 throughout Northeast PA so you can have peace of mind in the event of this outbreak.
Here at First General, we adhere to all OSHA regulations, we are certified by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), and strictly follow the most current and up-to-date solutions outlined by the Center for Disease Control.
The First General team uses CDC and EPA approved industrial strength disinfectants with a broad spectrum kill claim.
We can provide both residential and commercial cleaning and disinfecting services.
Residential Cleaning and Disinfecting
We will disinfect all high-touch hard surfaces such as door handles, bathroom fixtures, light switches, tables, desks, chairs and counter tops, using registered hospital grade disinfectants. In addition to the manual wiping and disinfecting, electrostatic sprayers (which create a bond between the surface and the spray and don’t have to be wiped) can be used where necessary. It is important to note-we will go beyond the scope of work that regular janitorial staff perform on a daily basis. Our technicians are highly trained and certified professionals who will provide the most effective residential cleaning and disinfecting service possible.

The 411 on Face Coverings
The CDC continues to study the spread and effects of the novel coronavirus across the United States. We now know from recent studies that a significant portion of individuals with coronavirus lack symptoms (“asymptomatic”) and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (“pre-symptomatic”) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms. This means that the virus can spread between people interacting in close proximity—for example, speaking, coughing, or sneezing—even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms. In light of this new evidence, CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.
